What can you expect on our Intro to Climbing sessions in Pembrokeshire?

On our Rock Climbing Taster Course in Pembrokeshire, you’ll learn the basic climbing techniques and essential movement skills, including:

  • How to tie into the rope and belay safely
  • Basic climbing and abseiling techniques
  • Footwork, climbing moves, body position
  • We can introduce you to placing protection and setting up your own climbs 
  • Climbing lots of amazing routes in a beautiful location!!!!
  • Fun, relaxed, at your pace

Whether you’re a complete beginner or have some experience, you’ll gain a host of new skills while enjoying an exhilarating day of climbing on the world-famous sea cliffs of Pembrokeshire.

Do I need previous climbing experience to join a course with The Climbing Company?

Not at all! Whether you’re completely new to climbing or looking to refine your skills, we have courses for all levels. Our experienced instructors will guide you through everything, from basic climbing techniques to more advanced skills. If you’re new to climbing, we’ll teach you all the essential safety protocols and techniques, while if you’re more experienced, we can tailor the course to help you progress further. 

What equipment do I need to bring?

We will supply all climbing equipment, but you’re welcome to bring you own if you have it – so long as its modern and in safe working order. You will need clothes that you can move in, to suit the conditions – warm/windy/sunny/wet!! Plenty of food and drink, and any personal medication you might need, plus a bag to carry it all n. If you have any questions just ask!

 

How safe is climbing with The Climbing Company?

We have an impeccable safety record, with robust risk assessments and operating procedures. Our high level of training and qualification enables us to minimise risk as much as is possible. An element of risk always remains, but we will get you to partake in the process of understanding and addressing it.

What happens if the weather is bad during my course in Pembrokeshire?

We can still climb even if it’s not blue skies and sunshine! We do not cancel the days even if the weather is a little inclement. If however we do cancel on safety grounds (rare) you will receive a refund or alternative date. We try and be accommodating and flexible and occasionally may be able to offer alternative days in the same week. Check out T’s and C’s for more info..

Can I book a private climbing lesson with The Climbing Company?

Absolutely! We encourage it, and you’ll certainly get more done, tailored to your goals and experience.

Is transport included?

We meet at a carpark/cafe near the venue for these days, and transport is not included.

Where is the course based?

We can be flexible with where you’re staying, and there are good venues throughout Pembrokeshire. The weather and tides may dictate a certain venue as best on the day.

What you need to bring

  • Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing(e.g., lightweight layers for warm weather, or waterproofs and layers for cooler, wet days) 
  • Sturdy outdoor shoes(for walking along the coast path) 
  • A small daypack(for carrying snacks, drinks, and any extra layers) 
  • Water bottle(hydration is key!) 
  • Lunch and snacks(energy for climbing – think snacky energy things) 
  • Sun protection(hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen on sunny days) 
  • Personal medication(if applicable, please bring any medication you may need during the day) 
  • Camera or phone (optional, but you’ll definitely want to capture some memories!) 

Additional bits

If you have any of your own climbing equipment, feel free to bring it along, as long as it meets safety standards. Let us know in advance if you need any additional help with kit or suggestions for your day!
